Barrie Koegel
Chief Operating Officer
Barrie comes to NBT with a deep appreciation for the power of storytelling and artistic expression to heal and manifest hope in individuals and communities. Her various professional positions have put her at the intersection of communications and cultural change.
At NBT, Barrie is responsible for day-to-day operations, including financial oversight of the organization’s budget and designing and implementing systems capable of supporting NBT as it grows. Previously, Barrie served as COO at Red Hook Initiative, a community-based organization providing youth development and advocacy services in Brooklyn. From 2006-2014, she played a similar role overseeing administration and finance at Fenton, the country’s oldest and largest progressive communications agency, where she initially acted as a consultant to various nonprofits on their messaging and public-facing campaigns.
Barrie grew up in SoHo but migrated across the East River to Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn, where her two boys take for granted the abundance of greenery. She holds a BA in American Studies from Yale University as well as a degree in culinary arts.
